Overcoming Fear Worksheet on One Page
Our fears are deeply buried and anchored within us. Typically, we need to
repeatedly bring awareness to our experience to free ourselves from fear’s grip.
This overcoming fear process helps us become aware of the deeper issues and
sources of our fear, thereby loosening its hold on us.
- What are you afraid of? Write your answer in Box 1. If you are not
clear, you may want to scan the
Fears List to identify your top fears.
- Fully feel the fear. Allow it to be there – do your best to let go of
resistance. When you sit with it, what messages do you get? What other
emotions do you feel? What thoughts arise? What happens when you allow
yourself to actually feel your fear? Write your notes on a separate piece
of paper and summarize them in Box 2.
- How does being afraid benefit you? What are you protecting? How does
it help you deal with life? Do you really want this help any more or are
you ready to move on? Write the benefits in Box 3.
- Ideally, what would you prefer to experience? What does your fear stop
you from being or doing? What opportunities are you missing? What are your
goals around overcoming this fear? Focus on what you want and describe it
in Box 4.
- View your fear from a higher perspective. How does your fear serve
your growth? What is the greater purpose of your experience? Breathe light
and love into your fear situation. Write your notes on a separate piece of
paper and summarize them in Box 5.
- What do you need to DO to move towards what you want? Fear immobilizes
us so moving into action helps us move through fear. Brainstorm ideas for
bringing your goals to life and list them in Box 6.
- From the ideas in Box 6, create an action plan to move you towards
what you want. Set target dates for each step. Use
Be Smart Goals to
support you in implementing your plan. Take baby steps, if necessary.
Start now to do things differently.
- Who can support you in going for what you want? Get at least one
friend or mentor on board.
- Give thanks for your insights and learning. Whenever we focus on
gratitude, fear is no longer an issue. Maintain a
Gratitude Journal. In
Box 9 list at least 5 things you are grateful for.
To gradually release chronic fear from your life, keep reviewing,
anchoring and deepening the above ‘overcoming fear’ process. Be alert for
warning signals and resistances. Open to the possibility that all is
unfolding perfectly. Track signs of change. A great way to stay on top of
ongoing results is to set up a
daily tracking form to track what is
important to you.
